NCOA made a commitment to honor Veterans of World War II
and developed the Medallion Honor and Remembrance Presentation. On 6 Jun 09 (the 65th Anniversary of the D-Day Invasion
of Normandy), Chapter 300 organized a ceremony for 35 veterans with over 60 guests in attendance. The ceremony honored
these special veterans and gave them a truly special evening honoring their military service during the war.
WWII re-enactors from The Living History Regiment, the Colorado Military Historical Group, The Military Vehicle Collectors
of Colorado and Kampfgruppe Von Ryan brought the evening to life.
In addition to the medallion presentations
were a POW/MIA presentation, flag folding ceremony and dinner enjoyed by all in attendance. Chapter members involved were
Sir Jerry Zoebisch, Sir Abe Braverman, Sir Bill Gardner, Sir Scott Ytzen, CMSgt Linda Valinho, SMSgt (Ret) Martha Lovell,
Sir Vince Johnson, Sir Marvin Weaver, Lady Pat Weaver, Chuck Fickle, MSgt Judy Allison and chapter chairman MSgt Jason Porter.
The Harrison High School Junior ROTC Color Guard rounded out the supporting cast of personnel sponsoring this event.
With
this banquet being such a hit the chapter was asked to put on another event of almost the same size. Once all was said and
done the Air Academy Chapter honored another group of WWII veterans at Liberty Heights Retirement Home on 11 Nov 09 (Veterans’
Day). This ceremony was masterfully orchestrated by CMSgt (Ret) Jerry Zoebisch and recognized 32 of our nations’ greatest
generation. For this event the chapter was able to include POW/MIA and flag folding ceremonies as well as the WWII re-enactors.
